I went from not playing basketball for 4 years & being a stay-at-home Mom of 2 children under 2 years old
to a WNBA player with the Los Angeles Sparks in less than a year!
How was that even possible? I acknowledged where I was (overweight and out of shape), where I needed to be to compete at that level, determined my personal pathway, and partnered with others to implement my plan of action as well as hold me accountable through to completion.
Respecting different cultures & disciplines enhanced my work ethic and sustained performance during my time in Japan. I embraced my life in Japan, learned the language, and encouraged friends and family to come alongside me in my journey. I played for Japan Airlines and competed against professional teams across Japan who were associated with major corporations like Mitsubishi.
Physical conditioning is only a small part of success. Holistic conditioning, including mental health, is the missing ingredient that elevates anyone's game. Unable to shoot free-throws and catch the basketball when thrown to me, I felt so defeated transitioning from high school play to collegiate courts. Mental agility, strengthening weaknesses, and partnering with coaches and teammates as accountability partners propelled me to the highest stage in collegiate sports.
